Online Universities in USA

Hi Friends,

You can see Online colleges and universities in the United States offer at least one bachelor’s-level distance education program. Even more online schools exist that cater to students seeking an associate’s credential or graduate degree via virtual learning.

With all of these options, how do you choose the best online university?

➥ College Value Online editors developed the following ranking of the very best online colleges in the United States to help you answer that challenging question. To create this extensive ranking of the best accredited online colleges in the United States, our editors began with an initial pool of 144 affordable online schools offering bachelor’s degrees at $430 per credit hour or less.

We then applied the rating and ranking methodology above, using data from the National Center for Education Statistics and U.S. News & World Report. In the case of a tie, we awarded the higher ranking to the cheaper school.

Earning a bachelor's degree — in person or online — can open doors when it comes to employment opportunities. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the employment rate among 25- to 34-year-olds in the U.S. with a bachelor's degree was at 86% in 2018.

Compare that with the 72% employment rate for those with a high school diploma. A bachelor’s degree can also lead to a higher salary. In 2018, the average person with a bachelor’s degree earned a median income of nearly $1,200 per week.

In comparison, those with an associate degree earned about $860 weekly, while those with a high school diploma averaged $730 a week. In 2017, about 5.5 million undergraduate students enrolled in at least one online course, and 2.2 million enrolled exclusively in online classes, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. Students in online programs usually earn the same degree as on-campus students.

The curriculum for an online bachelor’s degree typically matches the on-campus curriculum at the same school, and the diploma usually doesn’t state whether that specific degree was earned online or in person. This can help ease fears that employers won’t accept applicants with online undergraduate degrees.
